Hello Everyone! Today I am bringing you a careerpath to develop or advance your career as a Product Manager. The role of a product manager is becoming increasingly popular. There is often confusion, however, about just what a product manager does. Product managers work to understand the needs and challenges of their targeted customers and to translate those insights into ideas for new product development or existing product enhancement. They create business cases or plans for improving the product and when these are approved by management, they work closely with engineering or research and development teams to identify requirements and support the process of translating an idea into a better product. Once a product has moved through the development phases, the product manager works with multiple teams in order to market, sell, and support the product.
In short, A product manager is the person who identifies the customer need and the larger business objectives that a product or feature will fulfill, articulates what success looks like for a product, and rallies a team to turn that vision into a reality. There are certain skillsets which are required for this role and these include the ability to cultivate a deep understanding of a particular market segment. A product manager should have an ability to explore and identify customer challenges and translate those challenges into product or a feature. It is also essential for the product manager to have an expertise in developing a business plan and investment case for new product development or current product enhancement.
So based on these details, it can be noted that professionals from many areas such as engineering, quality, customer service, marketing or sales can transit to a career in product management by acquiring the necessary skills. The usual careerpath to become a Product manager starts with acquiring experience in a product based company in any role and then eventually get more expertise in the areas of Product Management. One can start as an Associate Product Manager and work their way towards Product Manager and later to a director or VP of Products.
